Nestled into a southerly facing hill, overlooking amazing views of bustling Lyttleton Harbour, sits a house successfully mixing traditional with modern.  The site maintains wonderful views but was not without its challenges.  Firstly, the site was set into a hill which had not escaped damage in the 2011 earthquakes, and secondly being a south facing hill site it lacked a lot of thermal heating opportunities.

The homeowners fell in love with the site but would not compromise on warmth and energy efficiency.  The use of structural insulated panels in the design provided building strength and higher insulation properties.  Energy efficiency was increased further by incorporating PVC windows, max raft thermally broken slab and a heat recovery system
